Playstation 4 Concept by Tai Chiem
While Playstation 3 still has a few more years of left in its lifespan of relevancy, designer Tai Chiem has come up with a stunning concept of Playstation 4. The PS4 console would feature transparent surfaces made for adaptive touch screens, with a glossy black round compartment to place the discs of your choice. PS4 will give the gamer a unique cable-free gaming experience with its Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity. Moreover, the transparent display of the main unit can show thumbnails of different part of a disc and allow the user to select a part by simply touching the respective thumbnail.

Beautiful design, very impressive.

And you know this how?
I own SONY :-P
woah. so beautiful!
Cool concept, but discs? Really? Between high-speed internet, online stores, and cheap storage... discs seem unlikely.
Interesting design, but any idea of how to implement it? Haven't seen anything that could look that translucent that can carry the bandwidth for full video displays. you could probally run metal around the rim of the controller, but that would have a lot of noise and lose accuracy. Did you do these in a technical design program? or just pretty maya picture "concepts"
its truly is a beautiful design but Sony wont use or Microsoft.. how many consoles do you know that actually look good? they are all ugly because aesthetics cost too much over game play.
Another lazy concept. "oh hey, transulcent stuff is cooool." Not to mention how impossible the design is.
not to mention the fact that transparent displays ON the console are utterly pointless (as they'll be played on a big HD tv) and ridiculously expensive. I think it's quite quite obvious how this sort of design is never going to happen!
Actually, with the rapid developments in OLEDs (organic light-emitting diodes), I think you could create a translucent screen with no edges. Just a thought.
where does all the hardware go
looks great, but would be near impossible to implement. Shoving an increase of graphics processing power into that compartment is just asking for heat problems (just as microsoft). the on screen touch is a sexy idea, but just not intelligently useful. Not everyone is always an arms reach away from their console. Why do you think modern consoles start via controller now? imo, discs are still a must. sony is not likely to give up on blu ray that easily. It is still an advancing technology as well. even with large hdd's, you simply cannot replace the high volume disc yet. it will be interesting to see what sony does once the ps3 has been pushed past its limit.
I WANT ONE!!!!
